I called my kiddo yesterday and asked her what she was doing and she told me "not much, Mommy, just reading Harry Potter again." That was awesome to hear. I know she's read it through once, but to hear that she's reading it AGAIN? Amazing. Thank you, Jo Rowling, for writing such amazing books. Other things she's decided she loves lately: Full Metal Alchemist, My Little Ponies, and His Dark Materials. Things she hates: Twilight, Barbies, Bratz dolls, and Facebook. Glory Hallelujah. My kid's got sense.
Also good things: Buy one get one 1/2 off sales at my favorite shoe store, adorable dresses at the secondhand shop downtown, a new class being offered at Art Addicted that starts next month (I'm not allowed to tell what it is yet, but it's AWESOME), looking forward to reading Sookie Stackhouse novels in bed all day with the cats this weekend, and thinking about finding someone to ask out for coffee.
Things are good. Very good. Hope the sun shines on all of you, too!

This weekend at Art Addicted is Altered Book weekend! We're doing altered book classes, and everything you could possibly need for creating an altered book is 15% off! Have you ever made an altered book? They're amazing. In past classes, we've had people who've taken classics and made them into journals, taken random hardbacks and turned them into photo albums, and taken children's books and turned them into purely amazing artwork.
Introduction to Altered Books class is tomorrow morning at at 11, and runs until 12:30. For those that want more instruction, Altered Books I runs Saturday 5-8, and Advanced Altered Books is Sunday from 2-5. The introduction class is $15, and the other two classes are $20 each. All supplies will be free for students' use during class and for up to 2 hours after each class. Bring your own book to alter, or use one from my crazy stack. Either way is fine!
Also, for anyone interested in a job, I'm hiring part-time staff right now, so come on in and put in an application.

I hate cell phones. I don't know if most people understand my loathing of them, in fact. Oftentimes I want to pitch mine into traffic. And other people's as well. Think I could blame that on my Bipolar? "Sorry, I was in a manic phase and felt the need to toss your phone into traffic!" I think I'd get hit, but still, I really NEED to do it one of these days.
You know what really bothers me? People who stay on the phone when they're checking out at a store. I love the stores that have the signs that say "We will serve you when you are done with your conversation". We don't have one of those at Art Addicted, but we do have a sign on the way in that says "Please turn off all cell phones before entering! Artists at work and play." I'm a huge dork, what can I say?
Why is it that so many kids have cell phones? Kiley is 9, and she keeps saying she wants a cell. If it's up to me, the answer is hell no. But I'm not the custodial parent, so it'll be up to her Daddy more than me. I'm going to argue for her not getting one though. Ugh, I can't imagine her being an obnoxious phone kid. Blah.
Yes, this whole thing has been a rant about phones. I'm sorry. It's bothering me a lot today.
